The Gift of Faith

Peter, on the day of Pentecost, talking about Jesus, says, ‘You yourselves know the man, born in Nazareth, His father, His mother, His brothers and sisters. But we know He was different because God demonstrated it by miracles, by signs, by wonders!’ That is the Word of God and I believe everything in the Word of God is true! Either believe it all, or don’t believe any of it! If you start to take bits out of the Bible, what have you left? Even in the Old Testament, how did God deliver Israel out of Egypt? By miracles! How did God cause Israel to repent when they were worshipping Baal in the time of Elijah? By a miracle of fire! We need the power of the Holy Spirit to see miracles! There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12: – three vocal gifts, speaking with tongues, the interpretation of tongues, and prophecy – three intellectual gifts, the word of knowledge, the word of wisdom, and the discerning of spirits – three practical gifts, the gifts of healing, the working of miracles and the gift of faith. The gift of faith is NOT an intellectual gift! If you see faith as only an intellectual gift, you will never see its power. It is a practical gift; it’s the one I ask for – more than any other gift!

What Are the 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit? (1 Corinthians 12 Breakdown)

According to 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, the Holy Spirit provides believers with supernatural abilities to manifest God's power and perform miracles. These nine spiritual gifts are traditionally categorised into three distinct groups: Vocal Gifts, Intellectual Gifts, and Practical (Power) Gifts.

Understanding the exact nature of these gifts – especially the gift of faith – is essential for experiencing their full supernatural potential.

1. Vocal Gifts

• Speaking in Tongues

• Interpretation of Tongues

• Prophecy

Supernatural communication from God to edify, exhort, and comfort the church.

2. Intellectual Gifts

• Word of Knowledge

• Word of Wisdom

• Discerning of Spirits

Divine insight, revelation, and understanding beyond human intellect.

3. Practical (Power) Gifts

• Gifts of Healing

• Working of Miracles

• Gift of Faith

Dynamic, supernatural demonstrations of God’s physical power on earth.

Why the Gift of Faith is a Practical Gift, Not an Intellectual One

A common misconception is treating the gift of faith as a purely intellectual concept – a matter of theology, mental agreement, or logical belief. However, Scripture defines it as a practical power gift.

Crucial Distinction: If you view the gift of faith strictly as an intellectual exercise, you will never experience its miraculous power. Intellectual faith merely believes God can do something; practical, spiritual faith activates the power of the Holy Spirit to see miracles happen in real-time.

Because the gift of faith acts as the catalyst for all other power gifts, it is often considered the most vital gift to earnestly desire and pray for when seeking to operate in the miraculous.
