The challenge today is for believers to demonstrate who the REAL Jesus is. It’s a responsibility we cannot refuse or delegate, because the people in the world are confused by religion, by all the different philosophies – we’re living in a multi-cultural society and they don’t know who the REAL Jesus is! Religions are merely a man-made interpretation, therefore there are many. Theology is the theory without the practice. The God I know, admire, worship and serve is a God of Fire – Power – Action. And He requires action and obedience from us so others can find this real God.
There is a real danger that in our attempts to attract others into our faith we tend to water it down, whereas desperate people need strong faith in a strong powerful God. So this weak Gospel repels rather than attracts those we should be winning. I believe the reason we see so many young people converted in Russia is that they are looking for a real, convincing faith, which they find, and they are converted to faith in this God of power.
What is the "Real Jesus" vs. Religious Tradition?
In a multicultural society filled with competing philosophies, the distinction between organized religion and a living faith is often blurred. To understand the "Real Jesus," one must look past man-made interpretations and academic theology.
Theology vs. Active Faith
Religion: Often a man-made interpretation or a set of cultural rituals.
Theology: Can become "theory without practice" – knowledge that lacks life.
The Living God: Described as a God of Fire, Power, and Action.
How to Demonstrate Authentic Faith Today
For those looking to represent the "Real Jesus" in a confused world, the strategy shifts from persuasion to demonstration.
1. Prioritise Action Over Argument
The world is tired of debates. A "God of Action" requires obedience and tangible results from followers. When believers act with integrity and power, the "Real Jesus" becomes visible.
2. Embrace the "God of Fire"
Faith should not be a static set of rules but a dynamic experience. This involves:
Power: Expecting the supernatural to meet natural needs.
Authenticity: Moving beyond the "theory" of theology into the "practice" of daily devotion.
3. Reject Compromise
To reach the next generation, faith must remain undiluted. Authenticity is the primary currency of the modern age; a faith that demands nothing usually offers nothing.
The "Real Jesus" is identified not through religious ritual, but through a transformative relationship with a God of power. To attract seekers, believers must move beyond "watered-down" theology and demonstrate a life of active obedience and spiritual strength.
