I want to read to you one verse, Romans 1:16, For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.
What a challenge this is! Even in times of crisis, I am not ashamed of the Gospel – and I don’t want you to be ashamed either. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is where the power of God is revealed. All the power of God – the strength to transform, to heal, to save – is contained within the Gospel. It’s not just words; it’s the very life-changing, world-shaping power of God at work.
The Power of the Gospel: Understanding Romans 1:16
In a world of uncertainty, Romans 1:16 remains a cornerstone of Christian faith. The Apostle Paul writes:
"For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes."
Why Romans 1:16 Matters Today
This verse is not merely a statement of belief; it is a declaration of the divine authority and transformative energy available to humanity. When we analyse the "Power of the Gospel," we see three distinct attributes:
Universal Accessibility: The Gospel is for "everyone who believes," crossing all cultural, social, and economic barriers.
Divine Agency: It is described as the dynamis (Greek for power) of God. It is the active force used for spiritual restoration.
Salvation and Healing: The Gospel provides the "strength to transform, to heal, and to save."
Overcoming the Challenge of Shame
In times of crisis, the temptation to retreat is high. However, being "not ashamed" means recognising that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the primary vehicle through which God's power is revealed to the world. It is not a passive philosophy; it is a world-shaping force.
