Dear Beloved in Christ
I believe that the Lord is answering prayer and that we are emerging from the crisis slowly. I am sure that there are many lessons to be learned, which maybe the Lord had to teach us. There is no question that the Church must change, it will be forced to, as will the government.
It is an historic fact that during a period of war change accelerates. During WWI tanks were developed thus ending ‘trench warfare’, also flying machines developed so fast that they became a practical weapon. During WW2 we saw the development of radar, the jet engine and nuclear science amongst many other things. The cold war saw the results of the space race. Now this period of Covid-19 has not only seen the rapid development of vaccines, but a complete and radical transfer of government power. We are accepting a real loss of personal liberty and control by governmental edict not seen since the early days of communism enslaved one third of the world behind what was a ‘Curtain of Iron’.
As I lived and worked under more than 30 years of communism, I saw the impact on the Church and individual Christians. Only the depth of faith and an ability to change enabled the Church to survive. Hundreds of thousands died in the gulags, or suffered intolerable torture, so that the ones who emerged from this had a profound and powerful experience of God. After years of working alongside them, I myself was accused and imprisoned because of the hundreds of thousands of Bibles which I had brought in and the Gospel I preached which they said, ‘attacked the state’. I was released after only one year by Harold Wilson, by a ‘Biblical’ miracle, so I too emerged transformed, by a new depth of faith.
Because the last words I heard as I left that prison were, “Don’t forget us”, I returned and, together with these newly empowered believers, we saw the collapse of communism and, as the Russian government admitted to me in 2017, saw a massive explosion of God’s Power. It was Professor Diskin who said to me in that eventful meeting under the walls of the Kremlin, “Only the preaching of the Gospel saved Russia from complete collapse in the chaos.” So now, this is the challenge which must shake the Church in Britain: how will she emerge from this period of governmental control? Will she be defeated and controlled, meekly submitting to the ‘satanic’ power of worldly government, or will she crown Jesus as Lord and in obedience to His orders, see a massive Revival?
I sense that, even for me, this period of enforced lockdown will allow God to move me into a new period of my life! Nothing that happened in my past, including throat cancer, lung cancer, and a year in that prison, diminished my faith. Instead I emerged with a new depth and reality in my faith which has been demonstrated, not by words, but by 30 years of incredible, almost unbelievable miracles and a spiritual awakening which changed the whole of the vast Soviet Empire!
The main thing now is we are continuing a powerful ministry in Israel, Poland and Ukraine, using mainly our local staff in these areas. This needs your financial and prayer support to keep the doors open so that, as soon as I receive my ‘vaccination passport’, I will be back to fulfil the Missions which we are now paying for in advance and which, by the Grace and Power of God, will be more needed than ever!!
I am excited by the thought that in the coming months and years, to fulfil prophecy, the only way that revival will come through the Holy Spirit and people will be saved, is when we – and I will be leading from the front – get back out on to the frontline and do what Jesus commanded, and I got saved to do! Preach the Gospel, heal the sick and raise the dead! Actions speak louder than words! That’s why I desperately need your support, prayer and finance, more now than ever, because the task in front of us becomes bigger by the day!
If you think that I have slowed down or show any signs of aging… just watch me in action on TV! I am more active and more motivated than before. So much so that the same dynamic Spirit which drove me into Israel exactly 60 years ago, or to Siberia over 30 years ago, is burning in me even as I write this!! If the paper this is written on is not on fire and burning – read it again!
Yes, I have to admit, that after more than 60 years of never being in one place for long has meant that even for me lockdown has been a difficult period! Even 70 years ago in my early days of ministry, if I was frustrated I would jump into my car (a 1934 Austin 7) and simply drive, and I have found even now, that when frustrated I still jump into my ‘runabout’ car, the 13 year-old Saab 95. It has ‘only’ done 197,000 miles and like me is fit for many years to come! We are good friends and have seen a lot of life together!
In my youthful days, travelling to Israel and Bible Smuggling, the winter months meant less travel and I would become extremely bored, so I used to do a bit of motor rallying! One was a race from Leeds to Paris and back in the shortest time, yes, I won! Later, with my family, we used to race sailing boats. That’s a very ‘spiritual’ experience, your speed depends on using wind power and steering the best course! A simple lesson of how to apply the ‘Rushing Wind of the Holy Spirit’ to power us over the finishing line! You see, one of the lessons my father taught me was, ‘never to be so Heavenly minded that I would be of no earthly use’!!
After leaving school I had to get a job in a bank in London to pay my way through Bible College. In those days I used to cry out to God, please Lord wait for me, I’m coming – don’t give my job to someone else! Then when I came out of the communist prison and I was rejected by my Church denomination (because I wanted to go back to Russia), I had to support myself financially, so I went back into investment banking! This is when I got into a race with God to outgive Him! Instead of giving a tenth of my income to the Lord I said that I would live on the tenth and give Him 90%. I failed, because I could only get up to giving 80%.
I am concerned this year that, after my first 70 years of ministry, I need to establish a clear legacy for the future. This I am doing by preaching every week on several TV programmes, viewed not only on God TV and Revelation TV but round the world and translated into more than three languages.
